The gas fireplace sat in a painted wood surround with brass trim, and the hardwood floor ran right up to the firebox with no hearth in front of it.

How we solved it
The hard parts of this job
01Brass trim to black
The firebox sat in a brass trim frame inside the painted surround. With the surround off, the stone runs right up to the firebox, and its front is finished in black.
02A hearth on a wood floor
The hardwood ran right up to the firebox. A large-format tile hearth now sits in front of it, with a straight edge where the tile meets the wood.
